1. What is art? Explain what you think makes a work of art “art.” Provide an example of something that is art, according to your understanding, and an example of something that is not art, as well. Be sure to explain why these examples do and don’t meet your criterion, respectively. 2. Take the work you used as an example of art in #1. Perform a thorough descriptive criticism of that artwork. Include every aspect that you believe is important to understanding the work. 3. Using the same work you used in #1 and #2, perform an interpretive criticism of the work. Explain what you think it means and why you think so. Be sure to provide specific evidence and reasons to back up your interpretation. 4. Finally, continuing to use the same work you’ve used in the first three tasks, perform an evaluative criticism of the work. Explain what you think is good or bad about the work and why you think so. And provide an overall assessment of the work’s quality.
